In this hour of The Blues & Beyond, we'll feature a new album from Earl Gaines called "Nothin' But The Blues." Gaines sang lead on a hit record in 1955 that was issued under his group leader's name, Louis Brooks & His Hi-Toppers. That song "It's Love Baby (24 Hours a Day)" remained a staple in his repertoire over the years, and a new version appears on "Nothin' But The Blues" which also features a number of other strong soul-blues songs. This program also includes two songs from McCoy Tyner's new album "Guitars" (he is still playing piano, but is joined by some great guitarists, and one banjoist of note). We'll also hear from super pianist Hiromi Uehara and her group Hiromi's Sonicbloom, and a duo of duos-- Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile on bass and mandolin, and the guitar-synthesizer duo of Art Cohen and Chuck Van Zyl, known as The Ministry Of Inside Things. They have a new album called Ambient Elsewhere. In this mix of music are included the first two "cheating songs" ever played on The Blues & Beyond... one from Earl Gaines, and a 1972 classic that caused a bit of controversy when it came out.
