Learning to love—and hate the T

I’m a Clevelander by birth, a resident of the Boston area by choice. Being a child of the Great Lakes has left me with some legacies of life on the Great Lakes—a lifelong love of the Cleveland Indians, a tendency to make eye contact with strangers, and an attachment to my automobile, and the freedom of wide open spaces.
But Cleveland lacks the energy of the East Coast—especially for a single gay man like me, and so in the mid ‘80’s I left Ohio for the bright lights of the Northeast. Through all my time in Boston—I’ve lived in Somerville, Medford, Jamaica Plain, Beacon Hill and Newton—been upwardly and downwardly mobile—the one constant has been my dependence on my car.
