Piece Description

Duncan Sheik was just 23 when he got his first record contract with a major label. His self-titled debut album sold well--mostly on the strength of the radio-friendly tune "Barely Breathing". But mainstream stardom felt awkward to Sheik--an artist who felt much more at home writing indie-rock music in his studio than playing the "fame game". Duncan Sheik has churned out a series of thoughtful albums since the mid-1990's. He also ventured into scoring music for film and musicals. In 2007 he won two Tony awards for his work on the Broadway musical "Spring Awakening" On this edition of "A Musician's Life" Duncan Sheik talks about artistic portfolio. He also discusses his Buddhist faith.
