Piece Description
In 2005, a StoryCorps mobile booth visited the Chicago home of the legendary oral historian, Studs Terkel. Always a lover of what he called 'vox humana, the human voice, Terkel noticed when it was missing, as it was one day on an airport shuttle train in Atlanta.

INTRO:[STORYCORPS MUSIC]
Time now for StoryCorps ...
... and a word about how this project is collecting stories around the
country.
Traveling RECORDING BOOTHS have visited ALL the lower 48 states ...
... stopping at places like libraries, museums, and malls.
ONLY ONCE, did a booth pull in to someone's DRIVEWAY to record a story.
It was in Chicago.
And that driveway belonged to Studs Terkel.
The legendary oral historian died last week ...
... but recorded THIS when StoryCorps came to visit.

[STORYCORPS MUSIC]
The late Studs Terkel -- in a StoryCorps recording booth -- in his
driveway -- in Chicago.
That booth was eventually DEDICATED to him.
His interview will be archived in the Library of Congress and
NPR-dot-ORG.
