Piece Description
On this program, we feature the new release "Deep In The Night" from Lil' Dave Thompson. Thompson is a Mississippi bluesman, schooled by some of the greats of Mississippi country blues, though offering a more urban sound himself. At 39, Thompson is one of the younger players in a scene that often seems to be ruled by senior citizens. His singing is passionate and his guitar work is crisp and incisive. We've also got blues from Bentonia MS, from its leading contemporary representative Jimmy "Duck" Holmes (interview and music from the new film "M For Mississippi"), and from Bentonia's most famous son, the great Skip James. Plus, Appalachia meets Western Africa on a new album from Jayme Stone and Mansa Sissoko; Ursula Rucker puts her latest poetry to music on her new album, and Hassidic reggae singer Matisyahu has a new EP out. We'll hear tracks from these albums plus a Coltrane Quartet cut from 1965 in this hour of cool music.
