Piece Description

"M For Mississppi: A Road Trip Through The Birthplace Of The Blues" is a film made from a seven-day trip through Mississippi. Jeff Konkel and Roger Stolle visit a number of modern Mississippi blues musicians, who talk about their lives and music, and perform at home and in small clubs. This program offers music and talk from Terry "Harmonica" Bean, Wesley "Junebug" Jefferson, and The Mississippi Marvel, whose name is concealed to keep his fellow church members from knowing he plays the blues. In the second half of the show, Ursula Rucker visits to talk about her new album "Ruckus Soundsysdom." Rucker is a musical poet who has worked with The Roots. Her poetry is evocative, sensual, and sometimes strident, and she weaves it with jazz, dance, and hip hop music.
