Missouri artist Paul Jackson submitted what he thought was a winning design for the Missouri quarter design contest. His idea shows Lewis and Clark making their way on the river with the St. Louis arch behind them.
Jackson’s quarter design caught the eye of the U.S. Mint, and the mint rolled out quarters with what Jackson calls a stolen version of his idea. A firestorm of accusations erupted between Jack and the Mint.
This story catches up with Jackson months later at a corn maze cut in the shape of the Missouri quarter design.
