"The Brighter Path" Louis and by Anthony Mascorro: This story comes from Louis. We aren't telling you his last name and you'll understand why when you hear the story. Louis is a teenager ? he lives in New York City ? and he recently stopped mugging people. He's struggling with his decision ? and trying to stay on the "brighter path", as he calls it. This piece was co-produced by Louis and by Anthony Mascorro at 826NYC , a non-profit organization in Brooklyn, New York that encourages creativity in young people. The story came to us through Transom.org . "Interview With John Kerry" Tamara Keith: When we were putting together this show we thought it would be fun to talk to someone who used to be anti-establishment and who then became part of it. Some one who went from opposing authority to being an authority figure. In comes Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. The one-time democratic presidential nominee famously served in Vietnam. And then when he came back he says he did a lot of thinking and eventually got involved with Vietnam Veterans Against the War. "The Law: A Life Sentence" Bill Sperling: Some people who are attracted to career in law enforcement but don't want to be on the streets like cops, might consider becoming a lawyer. But sometimes that isn't all it's cracked up to be. Bill Sperling, is here to tell us all about life in a big law firm. This story was recorded by Story Salon , a coffee house storytelling series in Los Angeles. "Rising Out of School" Julie Sabatier with Anna Fritz: To most of us, our first experience of institutional authority is the classroom. But there are always some kids who reject that authority. We?re not talking about the kids throwing paper airplanes or skipping class. We?re talking about kids who think they are smart and mature enough to move beyond the classroom. There's actually an "unschooling" movement. Anna Fritz is one of these kids -- she was a straight A student in high school and talked to producer Julie Sabatier about rejecting the authority of school. Julie Sabatier first spoke with Anna for Destination DIY , a community radio program. If you'd like to hear the complete original interview, please click here . Image "An Authority on Fear" Kat Snow: The first 20-odd years of life are one long race toward authority. Stuffed full of useful tidbits, we pop out at the other end, ready to join the world and Know things. And the more we know, the more fun it is. We can Make Pronouncements. We can dominate at cocktail parties. And then one magical day, we discover we are an authority, and it feels great. The thing is, it doesn't always feel so great. Kat Snow discovered one day that she's an authority on something she wishes she didn't know so much about.
