Tunes from the Crypt Returns features some of the most spine tingling, spooky music from four centuries of classical music and modern film scores. While the music is the star, the program?s brief stories, character portrayals and rich sound elements provide layers of substance that enable Tunes from the Crypt to achieve a dramatic impact on the audience. Spooky favorites include Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, JS Bach's Tocca and Fugue in d, John Williams' Devil's Dance from Witches of Eastwick, De Falla's Ritual Fire Dance, and Max Steiner's King Kong Overture, among others.
Tunes from the Crypt is designed to bring classical music and Halloween together in a way that captures the fun-loving spirit of the holiday while introducing listeners of all ages and sophistication to classical music?s passion, emotion and unique ability to set a mood or atmosphere. Broadcast History
Tunes from the Crypt has been an annual broadcast tradition on WGUC in Cincinnati since 1998. Several installments in the series have been distributed nationally by NPR and PRI since that time.
Tunes from the Crypt has been awarded the Communicator Crystal Award of Excellence and the Arts and Cultural Affairs Award for Special Programming from Ohio Educational Telecommunications.
