Piece Description

In June 1972 John Lee Hooker, Jr. performed at Soledad Prison in California with his famous blues musician father, but it would be another thirty-two years before he released his debut album. In the intervening years he did some time himself, and battled substance abuse. "All Odds Against Me" is his third album, and it is edgy, alive, challenging music, mixing the tale of his struggles with social commentary and ironic humor, combining volcanic emotion, telling observation, and incisive wit. It's surely one of the most important blues releases of the year.
