Review of Legal Emancipation

I can definitely say that this is one of my favorite radio pieces I've ever listened to. It was so good, I don't even know where to start! If I could give it 10 stars, I would.

First off, Jordan Teklay's story was interesting and compelling. His emotional but humorous narration made me feel like I was there with him, hearing him tell his story. I definitely was able to picture what he and his surroundings were like. As he explained the hardships of his move to New York and his struggles with his family, I became emotionally invested in the outcome of his story.

I'm 17, and I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like be legally emancipated. Teklay shows listeners that he's obviously smart and independent. He also shows that he's going through the same feelings that every other teenager goes through, despite the fact that he is living like an adult. I especially got this sense when he talked about his Family Group class. After hearing his story, I felt a huge amount of respect for him.

In addition to the captivating narration, this piece had such good use of sound! Melissa Robbins, the producer, did such a good job. There were so many cool and creative devices used to enhance this story. The echoe effects really emphasized the emotions that Teklay was going through. Also, external sounds, like his alarm clock, helped give me an even better picture in my head of what was going on in the story.

Lastly, all the different people Teklay included in his story made it even better. Everyone from his landlord to his mom was included. It added different perspectives of people in his life and gave everything more depth.

Everything about this piece was really, really, really, really good and I would recommend anyone to listen to it.
