After a visit to Yellowstone in 2005, I decided to return in 2008 to do a 20th anniversary piece about the 1988 fires. I couldn't believe that the fires were 20 years ago because the trees looked like they had been freshly burned.
In June 2008, I went back to Yellowstone and toured burned areas of the park with vegetation specialist Roy Renkin. This piece takes a look back at that summer and what park officials went through and also talks about fire history.
