Lionel Loueke is a rising talent in the world of jazz guitar. A native of the West African nation Benin, Loueke now lives in the U. S. He has studied at the Berklee School Of Music in Boston and the Thelonious Monk Institute Of Jazz in Los Angeles. He also sings, and his latest album "Karibu" is a warm, melodic delight, with plenty of enticing rhythms, and two special guests, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. We'll feature tracks from "Karibu" in this hour, along with songs from The Mannish Boys from their new album "Lowdown Feelin'." This is their fourth album. The band was planned in 2004 as a one-album project, but unexpected success has kept this blues revue going. Singers on this album include Bobby Jones, Johnny Dyer, Finis Tasby, and Little Sammy Davis, and the album offers a wide range of downhome blues styles and sounds. Also on this show a song from jazz-pop vocalist Raya Yarbrough, whose star is rising since Telarc signed her, and music from the album "Duet" issued in Japan by pianists Chick Corea and Hiromi Uehara.
