It's "two-fers time" on The Blues & Beyond. We'll play two songs each from three new albums, and two from an artist who appears on two different new albums. Lizz Wright is an affecting young soul, blues, and jazz singer from Georgia. Her third album "The Orchard" has arrived recently; it includes some new songs written with Toshi Reagon and some older ones given fresh interpretation. We've got one of each on this show. We'll also play two songs from Eric Bibb's latest album "Get Onboard" that both touch on the issue of making time for one's loved ones in a busy life. We have two songs from Chris Thomas King's new "Live On Beale Street" too. With one foot in traditional blues and one in hip hop, King is one of the most expansive talents in blues. He is best known for his role as a fictionalized Tommy Johnson in "O Brother Where Art Thou." Wu Man has carved out a career playing a traditional Chinese instrument, the pipa. She appears on two new albums that we'll also hear in this hour, the new Kronos Quartet album "The Cusp Of Magic" and Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble's new project with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, "Traditions and Transformations."
