Piece Description
STORY: The United States Postal Service has issued a new stamp featuring a leaping gymnast to commemorate the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. It was designed by Clarence Lee, a graphic artist from Hawaii. Lee may not be a household name, but his stamps are recognized around the world. In the early 90s, Lee was asked to design one stamp to honor the contributions of Chinese Americans. The U.S. Postal Service was surprised how popular his The Year of the Rooster stamp became, not just in the U.S., but also in China. Because the stamp sold so well, Lee was commissioned to design an entire Lunar New Year series of 12 stamps. Originally broadcast internationally on Voice of America.
