Piece Description
Mac Arnold is a former member of the Muddy Waters Blues Band, and of the house band for the TV show Soul Train. He also is the bassist on the theme for Sanford & Son. After years in the music business, in Chicago and later L. A., Arnold decided to go back to his native South Carolina and do some farming. His friends have been coaxing him to play some music too. "Backbone & Gristle" is his second album since returning, at least part-time, to music. It's full of good songs, a few of which are played on a guitar made from a gasoline can. He tells a story about that, which is part of this show. Also in this hour, "Rediscoveing Lonnie Johnson" -- a new tribute album to an artist who is unfortunately overlooked these days. Lonnie Johnson was one of the first players of the guitar to record improvisation on the instrument. We'll also hear from Johnson himself, and some new music from Lizz Wright, Eric Bibb, and Victor Wooten. Good stuff!
