Summer Rituals
Like most of the small towns in West Marin, ours is embraced within the arms of the Nation Park. In 1962 Congressman Clem Miller wrote and introduced a bill to establish the Point Reyes National Seashore. LIke all federal bills it took a while to shake down the details for the stewardship for this beautiful land that had been the home of the Miwok Indians before the explores and dairy farmers of Spain, Switzerland and Portugal fenced in the prairies for pasture.
When the National Park was established the question of what to do with the ranches arose. It took serious forethought to see the stewardship that ranchers can and do provide. As in all decisions of this nature along with the obviously right choices, mistakes were made. Today ranchers are still struggling with regulations and constrictions which may or may not be right for the land or the people w...
