In its annual investigation, the Center examines how the lobby successfully pushed its agenda, backed by a record $168 million lobbying effort. This story features lead report M. Asif Ismail explaining why the drug industry spent 32% more money last year than in 2006. The industry had to curry favor with newly powerful Democrats in Washington. It succesfully renewed two laws: a pediatric exclusivity law that extends patent rights and a law that expidites drug approval.
