Brazil: Beyond The Girl from Impanema

From: The Stanley Foundation
Length: 05:06

David Brown explains Brazilian music's love/hate relationship with the global stage. Read the full description.

Brazillogo_small Although Bossa Nova put Brazilian music on the map, a rising interest in so-called 'world music' has helped to spread the word about the diversity of the music of Brazil. With the rise of the internet, and Brazil's growing profile on the world stage, one might think this would be the best of times for Brazilian musicians to go global. David Brown reports from Rio de Janeiro that's not necessarily the case. David Brown's report, released in June 2008, is part of the documentary special "Brazil Rising" produced by the Stanley Foundation, KQED Public Radio, and KUT Austin.

Great piece!

This feature packs an impressive amount of musical and verbal information into its five minutes. I would love to hear more of this caliber of work on the air.
