Piece Description
On any given day, it will cost you roughly five-dollars a gallon to fill up your tank with gasoline in Rio de Janeiro. We know petroleum products have helped to shape the current global power structure. But Brazilians are hoping to shake up that old order with something for sale at nearly every gas station in the country. It's known as "Alcool" and it sells for half the price of gasoline. In the states "Alcool" is better known as ethanol. Keith Porter examines Brazil's ethanol industry in this report. Keith Porter's report, released in June 2008, is part of the documentary special "Brazil Rising" produced by the Stanley Foundation, KQED Public Radio, and KUT Austin.
