Series: European Jazz Stage 2008
From: Radio Netherlands
Length: 00:59:34
A blend of styles from Latin America makes this program steam and swing. Hermeto Pascoal, founding father of Brazilian free jazz, happily mixes traditional rhythms like forros, frevos and sambas with jazz, rock and even modern classical music. Yamand? Costa is the biggest guitar talent Brazil has known for a long time. His playing tickles the senses and takes us to the corners of Brazilian music. Singer Izaline Calister and piano player Randal Corsen are from the island of Cura?ao. They blend melodies of the Antilles with rhythms from the West Indies like the tumba. Bye-Ya plays Cuban and Latin American rhythms mixed with jazz. Daniel Frankl hosts.
