European Jazz Stage 2008, program 1
Series: European Jazz Stage 2008
From: Radio Netherlands Worldwide
Length: 00:59:33
When composer/arranger/band leader Vince Mendoza is in the Netherlands to lead the renowned Metropole Orchestra, he takes the big band deep into the evening hours. We caught them on one of those playful nights at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, joined by trombone player Nils Landgren (who plays, among other things beautiful Swedish folk songs).
The other set on this show is a remarkable concert with Shakespeare sonnets especially put to music by Dutch trombonist Ilja Reijngoud for this evening. Singer Fay Claassen beautifully sings these new songs with the strongest words. Old and yet as alive as ever. Daniel Frankl hosts.
