This is the time of the year for baseball, and that means popcorn, cracker jacks, and singing Take Me Out to the Ball Game. This year is the 100th anniversary of the song, and to celebrate major league baseball teams are auditioning their fans to find the most talented performers of that iconic song. The national winner will sing at July?s All-Star Game. At Turner Field in Atlanta, home of the Braves, the search has taken on the proportions of an American Idol contest.

Here at Turner Field on the Terrace Level, across from aisle 228, there?s a makeshift audition booth, with lights, video camera and a microphone. People are lining up to belt out their own version of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

[Kenny singing fade up? mixed so two following versions blend in, picking up the lyrics (Note: I have included a sample mix, at the end of the TRKS)]

That was Kenny Hightower from Tallahassee, Florida, a group of college friends from the University of Georgia and Cody Roberts from Winfield, Alabama.

Austin Rhodes - one of the Braves? judges ? has heard dozens of performances like these, and he?s still enthusiastic.

I think people are just excited about the game and excited about the season, and coming by and actually getting a chance to sing and get on line at the very least ? that?s what gets them most.
