Description:
John Carroll is currently a mass communication professor at Boston University and a correspondent for WGBH TV's Beat the Press.
Prior to joining BU, he served as executive producer of WGBH's Greater Boston, beginning in August of 2001, after being managing editor at Greater Boston since 1998. He began with the show as a freelance contributor, then became a staff reporter, adding his commentary and insight to both the daily program and to Friday's Beat the Press.
Before signing on with Greater Boston, Carroll was a commentator for National Public Radio and an advertising columnist for The Boston Globe and Adweek.
In his years with Greater Boston, Carroll has been awarded the prestigious local and national Edward R. Murrow Award for Writing, in addition to a series of Boston/New England Emmy Awards in both the News Writing and Commentary/Editorial categories. He has won the National Press Club's Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism three times. Most recently, Carroll received a New England Emmy for Program Writing.
