Pre-industrial banjo making, behind the battlefields of Antietam, MD.
A visit to the workshop of early banjo maker George Wunderlich. On the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, where more casualties resulted from this battle than any other single day in American history, Wunderlich finished a red-ribboned, handmade banjo. I followed Wunderlich through his workshop, and asked him to describe the social and cultural impact of the banjo, before and during the Civil War.
