Description:
For the families living in Baltimore in April 1968 who were neither white, nor black, the riots and violence that enveloped the city posed mixed questions about race, economics, and the cultural fabric of American cities at the time. Before the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination and the days and weeks that followed, I shared a personal essay about my grandmother?s Chinese takeout restaurant, which was close to the corner of Greenmount and North Avenue, where many local businesses were destroyed with firebombs.
