Piece Description
Alberta Adams has several copies of her birth certificate; they don't agree on her birth date. So, she may be in her early 80s, or as old as 90... but she's strutiin' her stuff on a new album called "Detroit Is My Home." Adams sang with Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie in the 40s, and recorded a few singles for Chess and Savoy in the 50s, but her career slowed after that until she teamed up with drummer, band leader, and blues fanatic R. J. Spangler in the 90s. Her career was relaunched with two albums on the Cannonball label and a bunch of blues festival appearances. On "Detroit Is My Home" she sings with authority, backed variously by three outstanding pianists, "Mr. B" (Mark Braun), Ann Rabson, and Al Hills -- which also makes this fine blues album a work of interest for piano blues enthusiasts.
