Default-piece-image-1 This was a "business story" I produced for the Radio Workshop at Columbia U.'s Journalism School- so I tried to focus on industry trends and analysis. It's interesting to me because it's the first story I produced with a minidisc recorder. The sound quality was so much better that I just used a lot more of it- the little digital mic did a pretty good job of isolating sound. The Toy Fair is held every year at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York two or three months after Christmas. By then the industry has broken down Chistmas sales and interpreted every trend they can possibly find. Interestingly, there are no children allowed on the floor- (although there was a yo-yo champ demo-ing yo yos who looked about 12 but claimed to be 19- maybe he was just young at heart) Obviously, this piece is no longer timely- this is the 2003 Toy Fair- but listening to it again, I like it and I think it does an okay job of keeping a typical day story fresh and sound rich.

Review of Toy fair

This is a solid documentation of industry trends---but it's not much of an incentive to buy the youngsters in your life presents when you know within months something better will be on the market. This sounds like something that would be on Market Place, ATC, or ME. The one problem program directors might have is that this recording is from the 2003 toy fair.

Broadcast History

Aired on the Columbia Journalism School's webcast in Feb or March 2003.
