Piece Description
Memphis native Eric Gales is a sizzling blues-rock guitarist. His new album "The Story Of My Life" offers more than hot guitar work, though. It's an excellent collection of songs, a refreshing change from the usual blues-rock fare. From the haunting "Gypsy" to the poignant "Red White & Blues" (about a loved one killed in battle) this album goes deep into the heart and soul, as well as offering a bit of humor on songs like "I Ain't No Shrink." Gales is thirty-three now, and has been a recording artist since his mid-teens. He has also worked with his brothers as The Gales Brothers. His brother Manuel Gales established a solid career for himself as Little Jimmy King, but he died unexpectedly at age thirty-four in 2002. Eric and his brothers learned blues from their grandfather; Gales plays his guitar left-handed and upside down, like the late Albert King did. His music is anchored in, but not limited by, the traditional blues of his childhood.
