- MemberSpeak Public Radio Testimonials
- From
- WGUC
This file includes 43 individual spots. Each one is a testimonial from a WGUC donor.
Donors were asked to come in for a 20-minute interview. We asked them each about classical music, public radio in general, NPR, etc. These spots represent the best of those interviews.
These donors make the pitch in a way that a station employee simply cannot.
Some include names, others do not. All of the spots are generic. (WGUC is not mentioned specifically.)
WGUC uses them as a buffer between music and news and the actual pitch during fund drives.
WGUC's MemberSpeak Spots won the 2004 OET Public Information, Short Promotions award.

WELL, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT LESS AND LESS OF THE
SUPPORT TO THE STATION WAS COMING FROM OTHER
SOURCES AND MORE NEEDED TO COME FROM THE GENERAL
PUBLIC. IT IS TOO GOOD A STATION TO PASS UP SO I JUST HAD
TO DO SOMETHING TO BECOME A MEMBER. THIS IS A GREAT
STATION, IT HAS GREAT PROGRAMMING AND IT IS SOMETHING
THAT WE NEED IN THE COMMUNITY. UNFORTUNTE GIVING
CIRCUMSTANCES IT NEEDS THE SUPPORT. IT NEEDS SUPPORT
IN A WAY THAT IT DIDN’T USE TO. WE MAY, A LOT OF US
THINK THAT THE GOVERNMENT OUGHT TO STEP IN AND DO
MORE, BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOES WHAT IT DOES AND WHAT
IT CAN’T DO WE HAVE TO DO. OTHERWISE WE WILL LOSE A
GREAT RESOURCE.
