Summary:

After a long day traveling over dusty, dirty roads in northern Afghanistan, reporter Will Everett went looking for a place to spend the night. Foreign aid workers and expatriates usually stay in guesthouses run by the UN or some other aid agency. Everett had been told plenty of rooms were available -- until he showed up with an Afghan interpreter. Suddenly the rooms evaporated. In this reporter's notebook, Everett talks about feeling the effects of discrimination.
