Piece Description

In May of 2007 Creative Time marked NYC's creative history by installing plaques at 33 sites that inspired them over the past three decades. The sites were chosen by a range of artists and writers who have made a mark on NY themselves. The audio stops were dubbed: "One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This." Passerby, following instructions on each plaque, could dial a number on their cell phones and listen at the site of the installation to a conversation with the artist or curator. Personal reactions and re-tellings of the installations peppered many unnoticed spots around NY. This capsule is about Love of a Poet, a16 song-cycle performed by John Kelly in the Battery Maritime Building in 1990 based on Robert Schumann's Dichterliebe. Kelly sings a bit from the song cycle, helping transport us back to that cavernous space in 1990.
