Piece Description
This cultural piece checks out one of the latest styles in band music. Morgan State University, an HBCU - Historic Black College and University, is home to The Magnificent Marching Machine, the college's marching band. The marching band incorporates the latest hip hop music as well as r and b classics into its repertoire...plus, it has a remarkable field presence. This very modern marching band sets modern music from the likes of Chaka Khan to Kanye West into a 100 plus member marching band...often re-making electronically mixed sounds into the big band compositions you'll find at halftime.

Timing and Cues
suggested host intro: If the last time you heard a marching band, they were playing that old Fight Song, it's been too long! Listen to this audio postcard from Mary Rose Madden about a modern day marching band and you'll understand a little more about the music's foundations and future.
