The Retro Cocktail Hour is actually TWO hours -- a weekly hi-fi highball of vintage "bachelor pad" music, exotica, private eye jazz and eccentric pop of the 1950s, '60s and '70s.
The show's spiced with everything from obscure Italian B-movie soundtracks and bossa nova to contemporary bands like Don Tiki, Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack, the Tokyo Panorama Mambo Boys, the Italian Secret Service, Balanco and others.
Featured artists: Les Baxter, Martin Denny, Perez Prado, Raymond Scott, Juan Esquivel, Arthur Lyman, Tito Puente, Pete Rugolo, Dead Ringer, Nelson Riddle, Dick Schory's New Percussion Ensemble, Dean Elliott, The Blue Hawaiians, etc.

Review of The Retro Cocktail Hour #470
This is one of my favorite shows on PRX. If you like Jazz, you will Love the Retro Cocktail Hour. It is a brilliant concept and works well for public radio for stations that air any type of programming, news, classical and/or jazz. People will talk about this show and will tell others to tune-in. This is exactly what happened when we aired the program on WMCE. I was amazed how many listeners called to tell us they enjoyed the program and wanted to hear more of it. I hope this show continues and other stations will have an opportunity to use it on a weekly run. You will not be disappointed!
