Both the dogs and the women arrive at the prison in rough shape - cowering, angry, skittish, broken in one way or another. The women are convicted criminals, mostly young. They have been sent to the Fraser Valley Institution outside Vancouver to do their time and to learn how to re-order their lives. The dogs need rehabilitation too. They've been abandoned and abused and, in order to be adopted back into the outside world, they need training. The women prisoners have been signed up to do the job. The Kennel program is a second chance for them, and for the dogs they care for.
