Part Two:

Eberswalde is a 45 minute train ride from Berlin in Germany?s Brandenburg region. For years this town was a haven for Neo-Nazis. This is where African immigrant Antonio Amadeu was murdered in 1990, and as late as last summer during the world cup in Germany, anti-racist groups warned Black and brown visitors to stay out of Brandenburg for their own safety.

PART TWO:
For decades when the world looked at race relations it was often in the context of apartheid in South Africa and Jim Crow in the United States. These days it?s Europe that?s in the racial spotlight, and the signs are everywhere: A general antagonism toward immigrants; the growth of Neo-Nazism; racist fan behavior at soccer matches; riots in France; fatal hate crimes in Russia. One by-product of Europe?s unsteady racial climate has been the growth of a loosely defined ANTI-racism movement. And like early civil rights activists in the US, its leaders are involved in an ongoing debate over the best strategy to use in furthering their cause: violence OR non violence. Here?s independent producer Phillip Martin with the second report in our series: Standing up to Hate In Europe.
