Description:

Joan Armatrading was the first black woman to become a full-fledged star in the UK. She has maintained a loyal fan base over thirty years with only a few actual hits. Her style draws from folk, reggae, soul, and now, more than before, blues, on her latest album, called "Into The Blues." This hour of The Blues & Beyond features tracks from this new release. Also in this program, new music from trumpeter Kermit Ruffins of New Orleans, recorded at a club in that city's Ninth Ward, and Mavis Staples from her new album "We'll Never Turn Back." A couple of blues songs, one brand new and one decades old, with no actual lyrics in them are also part of this hour of music, as well as the rhythms of the great Mongo Santamaria, and the Irish band Nightnoise.
