Piece Description
Jeff Greenwald is the author of five books of travel including The Size of the World, Shopping for Buddhas, and Scratching the Surface. This show collects two of Jeff's travel stories from his live one man show called "Strange Travel Suggestions." The stories in the live show are randomly chosen from the 40+ possible options when a member of the audience spins the gigantic wheel of fortune. You could go back repeatedly (and I did) and never see the same show twice. If he came over to my house every night, I wouldn't need a TV. This episode was originally broadcast as Invisible Ink #45 on 12/21/03 on KALW in San Francisco.

Review of Invisible Ink: Stranger StillThis half hour does one of the things radio should: brings us a mind and a voice we would not otherwise have encountered, and not in an interview format but in performance. In fact, I've often wondered why more things like this don't appear regularly on radio--people would listen with real fascination to this. The only problem is with packaging: in this case, the performance artist tells two stories. They are very different in tone. the second one is much the stronger. It would be wonderful were it longer, so it could carry the whole half hour by itself. |
