Crusts_small In Australia, when someone asks "What do you do for a Crust?" They are asking what you do for a living, your job, your profession. Our Series "Crusts", provides vignettes from people around the world, looking at what they do, why they love doing it, and how, if you are interested in this profession, you can get into it too. Our guest for this installment in the series is Ed Reynolds. Ed builds spacecraft. That is Satellite spacecraft for the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland. When I caught up with Ed he was overseeing the construction of the STEREO spacecraft project. Although he builds spacecraft worth hundreds of millions of dollars, his desk was in a ramshackle hut opposite the Flight Operations Center, which was oozing technology. In talking with Ed, he conveyed to me his belief; that the most important part of spacecraft construction is the people working on the project. I wish I had had Ed as a manager on some of the Projects I've worked on.
