MOLLY
Barbershop is four-part harmony.

LOIS
We don?t use any instruments. We use our voices as our instruments.

MOLLY
That first picture in people?s minds ? that?s four men standing around with little vests on with little straw hats. That?s probably the way it started.

ELAINE
Sweet Adelines is a women?s organization of barbershop harmony.

MOLLY
We are proud to say that it was invented by men and perfected by women.

Over sixty years ago a few women decided they wanted to participate in the ?chord-ringing, harmony? that their husbands were singing. That was the beginning of Sweet Adelines International back in 1945. Today nearly 30,000 women participate in more than 600 choruses around the world.
