Blues & Beyond #71: Mickey Hart & The Global Drum Project
Series: Blues & Beyond
From: WXPN
Length: 00:59:00
This hour of The Blues & Beyond features an interview with percussionist Mickey Hart. Hart is best known for being one of two drummers in the Grateful Dead, but he has always also been involved in cutting-edge drumming projects. He is also a musicologist, heading up The Endangered Music Project at the Library Of Congress. Hart's latest album with his long-time drumming partner, tabla player Zakir Hussain, and others takes up where his ground-breaking album "Planet Drum" left off in 1991. It's called Global Drum Project. With the same basic group that played on Planet Drum-- the album that won the first Grammy in the World Music category-- Hart takes advantage of advances in technology to pull new sounds out of old instruments and ancient rhythms. This hour features a conversation with Hart, tracks from Global Drum Project, and related music.
