Description:
Adam Gussow is a star harmonica player, and an author (and professor at The University Of Mississippi). His book "Journeyman's Road" was published this year by The University Of Tennessee Press. Gussow is the guest in this hour of The Blues & Beyond, talking about his days with one-man band "Mr. Satan" playing on the streets of Harlem and then in clubs. Satan And Adam were surely the most interesting blues act of the 1990s. Adam also writes about the New York City blues scene and various issues that affect blues and our perception of blues. In this hour we hear some of his thoughts and some songs from Satan & Adam, including an unreleased outtake from the album "Harlem Blues." We also have a street recording of the late harmonica player Nat Riddles made by Adam Gussow, and a track from Buddy Guy that might have much more meaning in it than is generally recognized. Gussow uncovers coded fear of lynching in the lyrics to "First Time I Met The Blues."
