November 27, 2007 would have been Jimi Hendrix' 65th birthday. 2007 is the Fortieth Anniversary of the debut of the Jimi Hendrix Experience at Monterey Pop.
In honor of these events, we bring you "The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live at Monterey: American Landing."
A one hour documentary that traces Jimi's early days as a guitarist on the Chitlin' Circuit, through his time in New York's Greenwich Village, his discovery by the Animals' Chas Chandler, his journey to England, and triumphant return to America at Monterey Pop.
This is the story of how Jimi Hendrix rose from being a sideman to an international superstar. Interviews include all three members of the Experience: Jimi Hendrix, Noel Redding, and Mitch Mitchell; Jimi's engineer Eddie Kramer; Chas Chandler; Pete Townshend of The Who; Michelle and Phillips of the Mamas and Papas; Steve Miller; Dave Mason of Traffic; Eric Burdon of the Animals; and many more.
Produced by Ben Manilla and Media Mechanics.

Review of The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Monterey: American LandingA fine piece of musicology, detailing the American debut of rock and roll's greatest guitarist. This piece provides great context for understanding the impact of Hendrix's Monterey performance, primarily from a historical perspective, but with some fine tidbits about the nuts and bolts of the music itself. |

Review of The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Monterey: American Landing
I don't think I've ever heard a more complete, more informative Hendrix special. Fresh, informative, well-paced.
