Description:

Clarksdale MS is one of the most important places in blues history. It was John Lee Hooker's home town, & home for a while to Muddy Waters & Son House... and a key place on the trail for Robert Johnson, Howlin' Wolf, and many others. The country blues is still happening in Clarksdale. Terry Big T Williams and Wesley Junebug Jefferson can be seen at clubs around town, and they have an album out now called "Meet Me In The Cotton Field" that gives us a good taste of Clarksdale blues today. Big T is on guitar and Junebug on bass, though each has played the other's instrument in years past. This program also includes other Clarksdale players, including the influential though obscure Tony Hollins, who gave John Lee Hooker his first guitar mainly so that he would stay busy and leave Hollins alone with his sister, and Mr. Hooker himself. Plus, we have jazzified blues from Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk, and songs that take us closer to the earth, from Joy Of Cooking and synthesist Mars Lasar.
