Yesterday we held our annual apple pressing at Blackberry Farm. It is always a fun day, a day for friends to get together and reconnect over a bathtub of washing apples and sack loads of apple slurry. Then there is the final table, where the cider is filtered, bottled and sampled and more catch-up conversations carry on. The day is full and quite hardworking and a reminder of the importance of friends who care for and harvest from the land. But as we joined together we were also aware of our family and friends who were not with us. Robert Dalva?s wife Marcia was on a train traveling back to the East Coast. Janet Robbins?s husband Matthew was on a train from Delhi to Mussourie in India. Marcia rarely flies and will always take the train if she can. Matthew was on his way to the hill country above Delhi.
