Hip Hop Elementary: Figureheads Bring "The Movement" To Milwaukee
From: Sam Van Hallgren
Length: 00:11:46
Milwaukee-based hip hop trio Figureheads started out performing for their peers in small clubs and colleges all over the Midwest. Four years ago, the group (MCs Jeremy Bryan and Greg Marshall and DJ Dave Olson) started sharing their music with kids in therapy environments, after-school programs and public schools. The group has now produced two albums of material for young audiences, and recently formed a non-profit organization with a vision of community building through music and mentorship.
88nine RadioMilwaukee's Sam Van Hallgren joined Figureheads at a recent school show the group put on for about 500 kids at Milwaukee's Engleburg Elementary School on the city's northwest side.
The piece is a sound-rich document of the concert, with voices from members of Figureheads, students, teachers and school administrators.
