- Katie Bausler
A few Alaskan veterans of the 10th Mtn. Division tell one of the most captivating stories of World War Two, the liberation of the Apennine Mountains that paved the way for allied victory in Italy January-May 1945.
While Jack and Tom vividly recall setting a fixed ropes course on a sheer rock face to sneak up on a Nazi outpost, Sig is reluctant to remember his part in what became a difficult battle in steep, mountainous terrain. Instead, Sig sings a 10th Mtn. marching song and fondly recalls Italian children chanting "war is over!"
Katie Bausler is producer of Alaskan Veterans Remember, an Alaska public television follow-up to Ken Burn's The War series.
Alaskan WW II 10th Mtn.Veterans Remember fits in with radio programming to accompany week two of The War.
