Buster keaton would have been 112 years old this year. He was one of the biggest film stars of the 1920?s. his stone faced character matched in popularity only by Charlie chaplin?s little tramp. His silent masterpiece ?the general? was released in 1927, making it 80 years old. In celebration of this milestone, for one night only, the town of carrboro north Carolina turned their community center into a silent movie palace from a bygone era.

On one recent Saturday night, carrboro?s century center came alive with the flicker of keaton and his beloved train named the general.

The general is based on an actual event in the civil war, where the north steals the general and the south chase after it on rail.

To add to the evening, musician erich lieth performed a live piano improvisation on the hall?s recently tuned grand piano.
