What do you do when a child's on fire? We saw children on fire. What do you do when a child's on fire in a war that was a mistake? What do you do, like? write a letter?

FORD: Describe THE CAMDEN 28 for someone who hasn?t seen it.

GIACCHINO: THE CAMDEN 28 is a film about a group of antiwar activists from the Vietnam era whose method of protesting the war was to break into a government draft board in Camden, New Jersey to destroy draft files so people wouldn?t be drafted and sent off to Vietnam to be killed or to kill other people. That was very important for them. They were a group of people who had families, they were priests, they came out of the Catholic Church and it?s the story about their action and their arrest and their trial.

Suggested Intro: This week P.O.V. Series Producer Yance Ford talks with Filmmaker Anthony Giacchino. about his documentary, The Camden 28. The film looks at a 1971 raid on a Camden, New Jersey draft board office by Catholic left activists protesting the Vietnam War and its effects on urban America. Betrayed by one of their own members, the Camden 28 were caught by the FBI in the middle of the raid, leading to what Supreme Court Justice William Brennan called "one of the great trials of the 20th century."
