"What in the World Is a Localvore?" Part 2: Eat at Home
From: Hilary Niles
Series: What in the World Is a Localvore
Length: 05:00
What in the world Is a localvore? It sounds like a person who eats local food, but what does that mean? How local, how hard is it to be one, and is it worth the effort? Amid the growing buzz of localism, these answers are what I have set out to learn. This fall, I'll be taking the Eat Local Challenge, for which I have pledged, for the month of September, to eat only food that grows or is raised within a 100-mile radius of my home. After a successful garlic harvest last week, this week I got ready to cook at home by cleaning out my fridge, heading to the farmers' market, and figuring out what to do with all the basil I brought home. This series of five-minute pieces, produced weekly (available by midnight every Thursday), is an account of my adventures, learning curve and discovery of community as I prepare for and engage in the Eat Local Challenge (www.seacoasteatlocal.org). Let your listeners tune into "What in the World Is a Localvore?" and that is exactly what they will find out.

POSSIBLE INTRO:
"What in the World Is a Localvore?" It sounds like a person who eats local food, but what does that mean? How local, how hard is it to be one, and is it worth the effort? That's what New Hampshire resident Hilary Niles has set out to learn. This September, she'll be taking the Eat Local Challenge, for which she has pledged, for the month of September, to eat only food that grows or is raised within a 100-mile radius of her home.
(THIS MORNING) we bring you the second in her 6-part audio diary series, "What in the World Is a Localvore?" As Hilary prepares her kitchen for the challenge, she also comes to terms with some cooking - or, rather, not cooking - habits that will have to change along with the contents of her refrigerator.
POSSIBLE OUTRO:
"What in the World Is a Localvore" is produced by Hilary Niles, who we'll be following for the next several weeks as she gears up for this September's Eat Local Challenge. Stay tuned to (YOUR PROGRAM HERE), and "What in the World Is a Localvore?" is exactly what you?ll find out.
